Resident Training-Staying Involved in the HOPE VI Process
2-Day Course

This training is programmed for residents and resident leadership that desire an on-site explanation of the HOPE VI development process. The course is condensed version of the training offered to HOPE VI sites at HUD Conferences. The sessions introduce residents to the goals and objectives of the HOPE VI programs; establishes the role of residents within the HOPE VI process; and, engages residents in defining meaningful and productive participation in a HOPE VI revitalization project. Community Task Force members will also benefit from this training.

Resident Counseling
2-Day Course

These counseling sessions with residents are extremely effective in trust building. The relocation process is explained in a manner that only a third party can deliver. These sessions stress the importance of working with housing authority staff to ease resident transition into temporary or permanent housing. EDTEC trainers encourage residents maximize their benefit from the HOPE VI process by actively using the Community and Supportive Services offered as part of the relocation process. This course communicates HUD's concerns regarding relocation, emphasizing the sensitive nature embraced by the HA during this effort, and HUD's mandate that HA staff go beyond traditional relocation efforts to make the move as resident-friendly as possible. These sessions cover in a general fashion, relocation benefits and the timing of notices. The training is particularly designed to help senior residents cope with the need to move.

Taking Advantage of Home Ownership Opportunities under HOPE VI
2 Day Course

HOPE VI offers qualified residents an excellent opportunity to become homeowners. This session explains to residents HUD's expectation that current residents will become the owners of a significant number of the properties designated for private ownership under the HOPE VI project. This training is designed to boost resident interest in homeownership. Through a thorough discussion of the services available under the Community and Supportive Services portion of the HOPE VI project, EDTEC trainers will introduce residents to the concept that they may be able to become homeowners as a result of HOPE VI. The realities and benefits of homeownership are fully explored. EDTEC trainers discuss the process for creating or restoring a positive credit standing, employment strategies that are most helpful in securing mortgages, and the purchase enhancement features available in your area.
